The End Times Discussed on CNN

September 2008 This is not a new video.

Psalm 83 (King James Version)

Psalm 83

1Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God.
2For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.
3They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones.
4They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.
5For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:
 6The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;
 7Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;
8Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah.
9Do unto them as unto the Midianites; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison:
10Which perished at Endor: they became as dung for the earth.
11Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes as Zebah, and as Zalmunna:
12Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession.
13O my God, make them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind.
 14As the fire burneth a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire;
15So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm.
16Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O LORD.
17Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish:
18That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.

People are scared to death about the future.
Biblical prophesy is unfolding a little at a time right now.
It is time to turn to the Lord.

“God has said: Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my Helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”(Hebrews 13:5-6)

But if you feel you must do something then make sure your president knows how you want him to treat ISRAEL.

Philippians 4:8 (King James Version)

8Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things

When this was originally posted I and one of my guest writers was personally attacked and unfriended on face book by many people. If it offends you to pray for the people that lead you then maybe you should take another look at your self. We are only human and we all make mistakes and need the love of God. I am not making excuses .... If God can come to earth as Christ and save us all from the separation between us and God by taking our sins upon Himself.....then who are we to decide who is worthy of the Saviour. It is NOT our job to decide. Pray people.

Plenty Big Elk Fight in River - Yellowstone National Park

Bull Elk battle in the middle of the Madison river in Yellowstone National Park. This is higher resolution of the original version. This video excerpt is from our dvd, "The Wildlife of Yellowstone" available at www.yellowstonenationalpark.com

I have never been blessed enough to see this when in Yellowstone.

I did love to sit and watch this happen while on my friend Mary's guided flat water kayak tour on the Pend Oreille River in N. E. Washington State.
Though Mary says you have to be very quiet and it has to be the right time of year.
She also said she has never seen this behavior repeated and our trips encounter may of been a once in a life time situation.
I say anything is possible and I think it is worth taking a chance.

Please take a look at this blog post called  Plenty Big Wolf

Have a blessed weekend.
Pray for our country and leaders.

Did you know that if you sell your house after 2012 you will pay a 3.8% sales tax on it? That's $3,800 on a $100,000 home . When did this happen? It's in the health-care bill.

Just thought you should know.

SALES TAX TO GO INTO EFFECT 2013 (Part of HC Bill)

REAL ESTATE SALES TAX

So, this is "change you can believe in"?

Under the new health care bill - did you know that all   real estate transactions   will be subject to a 3.8% Sales Tax?  The bulk of these new taxes don't kick in until   2013 .   If you sell your $400,000 home, there will be a $15,200 tax.   This bill is set to screw the retiring generation who often downsize their homes.  Does this stuff make your November and 2012 vote more important?

In February 2010, 5.02 million homes were sold, according to the National Association of Realtors.  On any given day, the sale of a house, town home, condominium, co-op, or income from a rental property can push middle-income families over the $250,000 threshold and slam them with a new tax they can’t afford.

This new ObamaCare tax is the first time the government will apply a 3.8 percent tax on unearned income.  This new tax on home sales and unearned income and other Medicare taxes raise taxes more than $210 billion to pay for ObamaCare.   The National Association of Realtors called this new Medicare tax on unearned income “destructive” and “ill-advised” and warned it would hurt job creation.

Oh, you weren't aware this was in the obama-care bill?  Guess what, you aren't alone.  There are more than a few members of Congress that aren't aware of it either.

Check it out at the link below.

http://www.gop.gov/blog/10/04/08/obamacare-flatlines-obamacare-taxes-home

Why am I am telling you this?
The same reason is I hope you will tell this to every single person in your you know  because another election is   coming soon, be aware!  (Press congress now for change & vote in two years to end these tactics.)

The Real COST of Cash for Clunkers!!!! You will be disgusted!!!!!!!

Oklahoma!

"No arsenal, or  no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is as formidable  as the will and moral courage of free men and women."   (Ronald Reagan)

While  everyone is focusing on Arizona's new law, look  what Oklahoma has been doing!!!!

An update  from Oklahoma

Oklahoma law passed,  37 to 9, had a few liberals in the mix, an  amendment to place the Ten  Commandments on the front entrance to the  state capitol.  The feds in D.C., along  with the ACLU, said it would be a  mistake.
Hey  this is a conservative state, based on Christian  values...!  HB  1330

Guess what.......... Oklahoma did it  anyway.

Oklahoma  recently passed a law in the state  to incarcerate all illegal immigrants,  and ship them back to where they came from  unless they want to get a green card and become  an American citizen.  They all  scattered.  HB 1804.   Hope we didn't send any  of them to your state.  This was against  the advice of the Federal Government, and the  ACLU, they said  it would be a  mistake.

Guess what.......... Oklahoma did it  anyway.
Recently we passed a law  to include DNA samples from any and all  illegals to the Oklahoma database, for criminal  investigative purposes.  Pelosi said it  was unconstitutional.
  SB  1102

Guess what........ Oklahoma did  it anyway.
Several weeks ago, we  passed a law,  declaring  Oklahoma as a  Sovereign state, not under the Federal  Government directives.  Joining
TexasMontana and  Utah as the only states to do so.  More  states are likely to follow:  Louisiana,  Alabama, Georgia, the  Carolina's, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri,  Arkansas, West  Virginia,Mississippi, Florida. Save your  confederate money, it appears the South is about  to rise up once again.  HJR  1003

The federal Government has made  bold steps to take away our guns.
Oklahoma,  a week ago, passed a law confirming people in  this state have the right to bear  arms and transport them in their  vehicles.  I'm sure that was a set back  for the criminals. The Liberals  didn't like it -- But  ....

Guess what..........  Oklahoma did it  anyway.

Just this  month, the state has voted and passed a law that  ALL driver's license exams will be  printed in English, and only English, and no  other language.  They have been called  racist for doing this, but the fact is that ALL  of the road signs are in English only.  If  you want to drive in Oklahoma , you must read  and write English.  Really  simple.

By the way, the Liberals  don't like any of this  either.

Guess  what....who cares... Oklahoma is doing it  anyway.

Yes it is from the email bag.

Attorney: Prosecute TSA for Child Pornography and Sexual Assault

This is a good update on my page

TSA thinks they can fondel and Molest people who OPT OUT of full naked body scans!

Please take a look at it.

by Stephen Pidgeon

Department of Homeland Security Director Janet Napolitano has ordered TSA personnel to have sexual contact with travelers who refuse to be photographed in the nude by means of the body scanners now deployed in airports, and TSA agents have complied. The person is subjected to such sexual contact by forcible compulsion, with the threat of incarceration and large fines for failing to comply.
Under the Washington State Criminal Code, DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano is guilty of the commission of numerous felonies — a felony count for each person subjected to such pat downs, and felonies of the foulest kind: the taking of indecent liberties. Here is the statute:
RCW 9A.44.100, Indecent liberties
(1) A person is guilty of indecent liberties when he or she knowingly causes another person who is not his or her spouse to have sexual contact with him or her or another:
(a) By forcible compulsion;
(b) When the other person is incapable of consent by reason of being mentally defective, mentally incapacitated, or physically helpless;
(c) When the victim is a person with a developmental disability and the perpetrator is a person who is not married to the victim and who:
(i) Has supervisory authority over the victim; or
(ii) Was providing transportation, within the course of his or her employment, to the victim at the time of the offense;
(2)(a) Except as provided in (b) of this subsection, indecent liberties is a class B felony.
(b) Indecent liberties by forcible compulsion is a class A felony
The Transportation Security Agency (TSA) has deployed full body scanning technology at SeaTac Airport. (Sea-Tac installs body scanners, Leave your weapons at home this Thanksgiving because air travel may now require a strip search, Taylor Lutz, The Daily Evergreen, Published: 11/16/2010.) According to The Daily Evergreen “machines violate basic human rights and dignities by strip-searching innocent people. Without probable cause or any reasonable suspicion, innocent civilians are being subjected to the same treatment that would usually be reserved for criminals. In other words, everyone is guilty until proven innocent.
As of now, individuals have a choice to “opt-out” from the strip search, but those who do will be forced to submit to an even more thorough screening. A TSA official announced they will be moving away from the “traditional hand-pat to more of a hand sliding motion.” Regardless of the erroneous names the TSA uses for groping, this system of subservience represents a microcosm of totalitarianism.”
The scanners used by the TSA render digital photographs of a person completely nude, and when enhanced with simple software available to the TSA, become explicit, detailed, color photos of the person in the nude, both front and back. There have already been cases of these photographs being stored and used in settings outside security. Gizmodo lost track of some 35,000 images, that somehow ended up with a tech website that published the images that were taken at a Florida federal courthouse.
This technology was deployed after an individual who was on a terrorist watch list, bought a one-way ticket to the U.S. with cash, and was seated on the plane without a passport. The placement of this individual on a flight under these circumstances alone warrants the dismissal of all of the upper management at Homeland Security, starting with the vociferously incompetent Janet Napolitano and working its way down until you finally fire the security staff in Amsterdam.
Nonetheless, the terrorist who appeared to be carefully placed on the aircraft by security themselves, apparently tried to light flammable but non-explosive material in his underwear during the flight; hence, nude photographs of all Americans who fly commercial airlines must now be taken in order to secure our air space.
The truth is, that the sexual deviants and alcoholics in Amsterdam that allowed this fellow on the flight could as easily have been part of a conspiracy to promote this technology; in part, to deliver a false flag excuse for yet another useless technology at the airport, but mostly in order to provide the perverts in government with nude photographs of people, although the bulk of the interest is in nude photographs of children.
Yes, I am accusing the TSA of taking and storing nude photographs of children that are being secured digitally and sold throughout the world without our knowledge as a kickback to the child molesters working in government here and abroad.
We know exactly what is going on at SeaTac, and it is time to end this perverted crime spree. In the meantime, here is a list of the crimes TSA personnel are committing as we speak.
Applicable state law
The taking of a photograph of a person’s body that is covered by clothing and intended to be protected from public view is the crime of voyeurism, RCW 9A.44.115. A person commits the crime of voyeurism if, for the purpose of arousing or gratifying the sexual desire of any person, he or she knowingly views, photographs, or films:
(2)(a) Another person without that person’s knowledge and consent while the person being viewed, photographed, or filmed is in a place where he or she would have a reasonable expectation of privacy; or
(b) The intimate areas of another person without that person’s knowledge and consent and under circumstances where the person has a reasonable expectation of privacy, whether in a public or private place.
(3) Voyeurism is a class C felony.
If you object to the taking of such photographs, you are subjected to a search that includes groping of intimate body parts, which is also a crime, pursuant to RCW 9A.44.170
(1) A person is guilty of custodial sexual misconduct in the second degree when the person has sexual contact with another person:
(b) When the victim is being detained, under arrest, or in the custody of a law enforcement officer and the perpetrator is a law enforcement officer.
(2) Consent of the victim is not a defense to a prosecution under this section.
(3) Custodial sexual misconduct in the second degree is a gross misdemeanor.
As for the TSA workers who are taking nude photographs of children, these workers are also perpetrating felonies under state law, pursuant to RCW 9.68A.040, the sexual exploitation of a minor.
(1) A person is guilty of sexual exploitation of a minor if the person:
(a) Compels a minor by threat or force to engage in sexually explicit conduct, knowing that such conduct will be photographed or part of a live performance;
(b) Aids, invites, employs, authorizes, or causes a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct, knowing that such conduct will be photographed or part of a live performance; or
(c) Being a parent, legal guardian, or person having custody or control of a minor, permits the minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct, knowing that the conduct will be photographed or part of a live performance.
(2) Sexual exploitation of a minor is a class B felony punishable under chapter 9A.20 RCW.
When the parent rightfully declines to allow the TSA to sexually exploit their child, and the TSA subjects the child to a search that includes making sexual contact, yet another felony has been perpetrated, pursuant to RCW 9A.44.083:
(1) A person is guilty of child molestation in the first degree when the person has, or knowingly causes another person under the age of eighteen to have, sexual contact with another who is less than twelve years old and not married to the perpetrator and the perpetrator is at least thirty-six months older than the victim.
(2) Child molestation in the first degree is a class A felony.
Any law enforcement officer who knows of these crimes and willfully turns away from making an arrest is aiding and abetting these crimes pursuant to RCW 9A.08.020 (4-6).

The FOOD CRITIC

Recently I went with friends to a resaurant in Spokane Washington.

Best China Buffet
21 East Lincoln Road, Spokane, WA 99208 (509) 468-9988 ‎

Google Map

I found the restrooms, tables and chairs and highchairs clean!

I found the food good and even for my large family everyone was able to get their favorites.  I love that I can choose Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese foods over the few times I have been their.  They are a bit AMERICANIZED with the sauces and I do wish they would go lighter or offer them on the side.

I found the Sushi and California Rolls well prepared but a bit to large to fit in my mouth. (Yes I do have a big mouth.) I think they have accommodated their American customers who want more for their dollar.

The staff is friendly and helpful.

I love how bright and well lite the rooms are even on gloomy days.

I have heard other reviews of the funky smell the place has and found it to be nothing but the food and how it is prepared.

I have friends who have eaten here 12+ times a year and have never been ill from the adventure.

All in all I find this a wonderful place to take the family and meet friends.

I give it a very satisfactory rating of 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.

WHY not some SCENTS 2

This is an update on Sunday, January 9, 2011 post : WHY not some SCENTS

After my last time at church I have been waiting for my hives to go away and for my throat to feel better.  I am not stretching the truth that since my intense asthma attack on Jan. 9 2011 I have had a sore throat that goes all the way into my stomach.

So today feeling the need to go worship and be around others of similar belief we went to church.

As soon as I walked in I was OVERWHELMED with the smell of cigarettes lingering on peoples clothes,  perfume, colognes and the air fresheners and evaporated oil incense the church uses in the bathrooms.

I sat down in the first pew inside the door and waited for my husband who was pulled aside talking to someone.

While sitting there first one and then another of my closest friends came over to say hi.  They brought with them the cloud of vapors that they had sprayed on to their bodies before coming to church.

My nose immediately started to run.
Not the embarrassing run on your face but the one that releases all the histamine into your throat clogging your breathing and choking your mouth.
My eyes watered so bad I am sure I looked like I was going to cry.
About this time my ears popped and I felt a rush of heat and could feel my breath rushing in my ears.

Both of them know my problem with my allergies and knew I was trying to attend again today.  It was as if they deliberately put on more stench just to see if I was going to have a reaction.

I could not even talk because I could not catch my breath.

A third lady asked how I was doing and even commented on how my "fine" was not very convincing.  Well when you are squeaking trying to breath and talk it does not sound like you are fine.  She was right.

I had to leave church and had not been their 5 minutes total.

My throat is so raw it feels like it is bleeding.

I am again asking for prayer for healing.

I would also like to ask all of you that were and use these scents to STOP and think about what you my be putting your neighbors and friends through every time they encounter you.

Blessings to you and your HHC

A Report on

Indoor Air vs. Outdoor Air – Which is More Polluted?

Jenny Thompson on 09/23/2009

What’s your IAQ IQ?
IAQ is an acronym for “indoor air quality.” And you can easily evaluate your IAQ IQ by answering these two questions:
If you answered yes to both questions, congratulations – your IAQ IQ is right up there with the best of them.
The Environmental Protection Agency reports that indoor air is often 2-5 times more polluted than outdoor air.
And according to Anne C. Steinemann, Ph.D. – an environmental engineering professor at the University of Washington – the contents of many air freshener brands may actually INCREASE indoor pollution.
Less than the very minimum
Dr. Steinemann became interested in air fresheners and other household products after hearing numerous reports from people who believed these items made them feel sick.
When she conducted a chemical analysis of three best- selling air fresheners and three laundry products, she says, “I was surprised by both the number and the potential toxicity of the chemicals that were found.” To avoid legal issues, Dr. Steinemann didn’t reveal any brand names of the products tested.

Scents

What do we mean by “scents”?
When we talk about scents, we mean fragrances, aromas or perfumes – anything that adds a smell to something else.
Scents can usually be found in personal care products, such as perfumes, aftershaves, colognes, shampoos and conditioners, soaps, body lotions and deodorants.
Scents are also found in household items, such as air fresheners, deodorizers, candles, some laundry detergents, fabric softeners and cleaning products.
Scents can also be found in the workplace (e.g. cleaning products, adhesives, caulking).
How can scented products affect my health?
Chemicals used to add scents to products can cause serious health problems for some people, especially for people with lung diseases such as asthma or COPD. Being near a scented product can make some people sick.
Scents enter our bodies through our skin and our lungs. The chemicals in scents can cause many different reactions. Even products containing natural plant extracts can cause allergic reactions in some people.
While some people are only mildly affected by scents, others have severe reactions. Some common symptoms include:
What ingredients are in scents?
Scents are usually made from a mixture of natural and man-made chemicals. A typical fragrance can contain between 100 to 350 ingredients. The problem with scented products is not so much the smell itself as the chemicals that produce the smell.
Scented products can contain several toxic chemicals that constantly turn into vapor in the air and attach themselves to hair, clothing, and surroundings. Most (95%) of the chemicals used are synthetic compounds made from petroleum. These include chemicals made from benzene, aldehydes and many other known toxins and sensitizers2.
One commonly used chemical is diethyl phthalatesensitizer and a reproductive toxin, according to HAZ-Map: Occupational Exposure of Hazardous Substances of the National Library of Medicine of the United States.3
Does "unscented" or "fragrance-free" really mean there is no fragrance?
No. Even products labeled "unscented" or “fragrance-free” may actually contain fragrances used to mask the smell of certain ingredients. Health Canada has specific rules about how companies can use these words on their labels. According to Health Canada's labeling regulations, "fragrance free" or "unscented" means that there have been no fragrances added to the cosmetic product, or that a masking agent has been added in order to hide the scents from the other ingredients in the cosmetic.

Plenty BIG BEAR or Just what you want answering your Elk call.

Big Bear shot Saddle Hills  Alberta, Sept 20/2010

It looks like Alaska to me.  But what do I know?

These two gents were calling elk  in the Saddle Hills south of Woking, Alberta when this big guy slipped  in on the caller. The Shooter spotted the bear about 8 yards from the  caller and dropped him with 5 shots out of his 338 Rem Mag..
Farmers in  the area knew about the bear but weren’t able to track after it had  killed 3 horses, 5 cows, 13 sheep and a pen full of chickens on several  different homesteads in the area.
Fish and wildlife had bear traps set  up in the area but notice on surveillance video that whenever he would  enter his hump would hit the top of the culvert trap slowing him enough  that the trap door would wack him on the head before he was all the way  in the reap.
Check out the scar tissue on his face.
Bear weighed in just  under 1300 pounds and would have stood 11 ¾ feet tall on its hind  legs.

I  personally have seen a bear this big in North East Washington State.  These animals are still out there.  So hikers and farmers beware!

elk that got away

Here is some real amazing video for those of you that loved the wolf hunt photos I posted a few months ago.

I hope you never suffer as this poor guy did.

Repentance do you really understand the meaning of the word? a personal revalation from a private journal.

My friend Mary gave me permission to peruse her journal while she and the Lord were battling cancer in her body.
Little did I know it would be an amazing blessing.

So I am here rewriting and condensing the revelation in study of the Lords word that came to her back in 2008 as she was preparing to leave to visit her family for what she thought was the last time.

Little did Mary know at the time thinking it was she that would be going home to the Lord that it was going to be the loss of one of her younger brothers in 2010 and that the visit she was preparing to leave on was the last time they would all be together on this earth.

If I have success with this post Mary says it will be a sign from the Lord that she is to start letting me share her walk from her journals.  So please if you are inspired or disgusted we want to know.

What do you think you have to repent from?

Do you repent of your sins rehashing and recalling to mind all that you need to ask forgiveness for causing you to lose sleep, stumble through the day and lose your train of thought.

I do.

I spent many nervous, frustrated years thinking, wondering where I would go if I died.

I finally found out that the word repent is in the Bible 112 times, and NOT one time does it say to repent of sin!

WOW and I thought I was confused and frustrated before!

You are probably asking what does it say to repent of?

Well I am here to tell you now that it says to repent from Dead Works. Hebrews 6.

I have been trying to please God with my confessions.  NO WONDER I was scared.  Confession of sin is just dead works!

We have to sop trying to be good enough for God,,,,and that is dead works witch keep us LOST!  Just as Cain offered a bunch of fruits and veggies, we are offering our works!

Check out this AWESOME video Are You Ready for Jesus to Come Back

What do you repent toward?

In Acts 20 is says repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ!

We must repent from dead works and toward God!

We do not have to deal with our sins.  Jesus already took care of them.

We just have to quit offering our good fruit, like Cain did and (it is so simple) just accept God's blood sacrifice!  JESUS CHRIST!

Feel humbled yet?

I DID!

So plane and simple a plane that we were told of it when we first heard about Jesus.
It was right there in front of us to grab and we could not see it because nothing in this day and age is that simple.

I was never saved so I never lost it!  I only knew religious teachings and hoped it was enough.  IT WAS NOT.

I was bursting with JOY!

My repentance was classic dead works!  Just as  Cain did I was bringing my veggies and fruit to try to appease God, but God had already provided Jesus' very own blood to cleanse me, disgusting sinner that I be.

Now I really do understand why Jesus is called the Lamb of God!
I know for sure!   I know!

I had kept thinking I had to be so really sorry for my sins.  I had to think back and confess and confess ever time they were called to mind with such great sorrow I could not get out of the funk of sin.
I had broken every commandment by the time I was 18 years old.  I was the lowest sinner and thought  my real sorrow was proper repentance.  But I now know it was dead works.

I know this is what plagues much of our RELIGIOUS CHRISTEN SOCIETY.  How can I the newbie Christian walking with the Lord tell them all how wrong they have had it with out making them feel bad.

I again have to be Debor, Judge from the old testament and help call the erring nation back to the right hand of God.
Debora lesson that Mary shares often. It is a good one.
We are not just sick as a country but we are sick as Christians and need to head the call.

Thank you Lord for the revelation before going to see my family.  Please pave the way for me to speak on this and on how our family history proves that you have hand your hand on our lives for generations before we were born.  Please Lord let them be open to hearing your words from me.

That is basically what she wrote.  There are some personal struggles with her dealing with a child that worries she will not see him grow up but I need to save that for another post and hope Mary will allow me to share it.
Blessings to us all

The NEXT DUST BOWL coming this summer. Or This summer!!!!! Catch your peice of California as it blows by on the wind.

This is an article from Victor Davis Hansen, a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University

The last three weeks I have traveled about, taking the pulse of the more forgotten areas of central California.  I wanted to witness, even if superficially, what is happening to a state that has the highest sales and income taxes, the most lavish entitlements, the near-worst public schools (based on federal test scores), and the largest number of illegal aliens in the nation, along with an over regulated private sector, a stagnant and shrinking manufacturing base, and an elite environmental ethos that restricts commerce and productivity without curbing consumption.

During this unscientific experiment, three times a week I rode a bike on a 20-mile trip over various rural roads in southwestern  Fresno   County .  I also drove my car over to the coast to work, on various routes through towns like  San Joaquin , Mendota, and Firebaugh.  And near my home I have been driving, shopping, and touring by intent the rather segregated and impoverished areas of Caruthers, Fowler, Laton,  Orange  Cove, Parlier, and  Selma .  My own farmhouse is now in an area of abject poverty and almost no ethnic diversity; the closest elementary school (my alma mater, two miles away) is 94 percent Hispanic and 1 percent white, and well below federal testing norms in math and English.

Here are some general observations about what I saw (other than that the rural roads of California are fast turning into rubble, poorly maintained and reverting to what I remember seeing long ago in the rural South).  First, remember that these areas are the ground zero, so to speak, of 20 years of illegal immigration.  There has been a general depression in farming — to such an extent that the 20- to 100-acre tree and vine farmer, the erstwhile backbone of the old rural  California , for all practical purposes has ceased to exist.

On the western side of the  Central Valley , the effects of arbitrary cutoffs in federal irrigation water have idled tens of thousands of acres of prime agricultural land, leaving thousands unemployed.  Manufacturing plants in the towns in these areas — which used to make harvesters, hydraulic lifts, trailers, food-processing equipment — have largely shut down; their production has been shipped off overseas or south of the border.  Agriculture itself — from almonds to raisins — has increasingly become corporatized and mechanized, cutting by half the number of farm workers needed.  So unemployment runs somewhere between 15 and 20 percent.

Many of the rural trailer-house compounds I saw appear to the naked eye no different from what I have seen in the  Third World .  There is a Caribbean look to the junked cars, electric wires crisscrossing between various outbuildings, plastic tarps substituting for replacement shingles, lean-tos cobbled together as auxiliary housing, pit bulls unleashed, and geese, goats, and chickens roaming around the yards.  The public hears about all sorts of tough California regulations that stymie business — rigid zoning laws, strict building codes, constant inspections — but apparently none of that applies out here.

It is almost as if the more  California  regulates, the more it does not regulate.  Its public employees prefer to go after misdemeanors in the upscale areas to justify our expensive oversight industry, while ignoring the felonies in the downtrodden areas, which are becoming feral and beyond the ability of any inspector to do anything but feel irrelevant.  But in the regulators' defense, where would one get the money to redo an ad hoc trailer park with a spider web of illegal bare wires?

Many of the rented-out rural shacks and stationary Winnebagos are on former small farms — the vineyards overgrown with weeds, or torn out with the ground lying fallow.  I pass on the cultural consequences to communities from the loss of thousands of small farming families.  I don't think I can remember another time when so many acres in the eastern part of the valley have gone out of production, even though farm prices have recently rebounded. Apparently it is simply not worth the gamble of investing $7,000 to $10,000 an acre in a new orchard or vineyard. What an anomaly — with suddenly soaring farm prices, still we have thousands of acres in the world's richest agricultural belt, with available water on the east side of the valley and plentiful labor, gone idle or in disuse.  Is credit frozen?  Are there simply no more farmers?  Are the schools so bad as to scare away potential agricultural entrepreneurs?  Or are we all terrified by the national debt and uncertain future?

California  coastal elites may worry about the oxygen content of water available to a three-inch smelt in the  Sacramento-San   Joaquin   River  Delta, but they seem to have no interest in the epidemic dumping of trash, furniture, and often toxic substances throughout  California  's rural hinterland.  Yesterday, for example, I rode my bike by a stopped van just as the occupants tossed seven plastic bags of raw refuse onto the side of the road.  I rode up near their bumper and said in my broken Spanish not to throw garbage onto the public road.  But there were three of them, and one of me.  So I was lucky to be sworn at only.  I note in passing that I would not drive into  Mexico  and, as a guest, dare to pull over and throw seven bags of trash into the environment of my host.

In fact, trash piles are commonplace out here — composed of everything from half-empty paint cans and children's plastic toys to diapers and moldy food.  I have never seen a rural sheriff cite a litterer, or witnessed state EPA workers cleaning up these unauthorized wastelands.  So I would suggest to Bay Area scientists that the environment is taking a much harder beating down here in central  California  than it is in the Delta.  Perhaps before we cut off more irrigation water to the west side of the valley, we might invest some green dollars into cleaning up the unsightly and sometimes dangerous garbage that now litters the outskirts of our rural communities.

We hear about the tough small-business regulations that have driven residents out of the state, at the rate of 2,000 to 3,000 a week.  But from my unscientific observations these past weeks, it seems rather easy to open a small business in  California  without any oversight at all, or at least what I might call a "counter business."  I counted eleven mobile hot-kitchen trucks that simply park by the side of the road, spread about some plastic chairs, pull down a tarp canopy, and, presto, become mini-restaurants.  There are no "facilities" such as toilets or washrooms. But I do frequently see lard trails on the isolated roads I bike on, where trucks apparently have simply opened their draining tanks and sped on, leaving a slick of cooking fats and oils.  Crows and ground squirrels love them; they can be seen from a distance mysteriously occupied in the middle of the road.

At crossroads, peddlers in a counter-California economy sell almost anything.  Here is what I noticed at an intersection on the west side last week: shovels, rakes, hoes, gas pumps, lawnmowers, edgers, blowers, jackets, gloves, and caps.  The merchandise was all new.  I doubt whether in high-tax California  sales taxes or income taxes were paid on any of these stop-and-go transactions.

In two supermarkets 50 miles apart, I was the only one in line who did not pay with a social-service plastic card (gone are the days when "food stamps" were embarrassing bulky coupons).  But I did not see any relationship between the use of the card and poverty as we once knew it:  The electrical appurtenances owned by the user and the car into which the groceries were loaded were indistinguishable from those of the upper middle class.

By that I mean that most consumers drove late-model Camrys, Accords, or Tauruses, had iPhones, Bluetooths, or BlackBerries, and bought everything in the store with public-assistance credit.  This seemed a world apart from the trailers I had just ridden by the day before.  I don't editorialize here on the logic or morality of any of this, but I note only that there are vast numbers of people who apparently are not working, are on public food assistance, and enjoy the technological veneer of the middle class.  California has a consumer market surely, but often no apparent source of income.  Does the $40 million a day supplement to unemployment benefits from  Washington  explain some of this?

Do diversity concerns, as in lack of diversity, work both ways?  Over a hundred-mile stretch, when I stopped in San Joaquin for a bottled water, or drove through Orange Cove, or got gas in Parlier, or went to a corner market in southwestern Selma, my home town, I was the only non-Hispanic — there were no Asians, no blacks, no other whites.  We may speak of the richness of "diversity," but those who cherish that ideal simply have no idea that there are now countless inland communities that have become near-apartheid societies, where Spanish is the first language, the schools are not at all diverse, and the federal and state governments are either the main employers or at least the chief sources of income — whether through emergency rooms, rural health clinics, public schools, or social-service offices. An observer from Mars might conclude that our elites and masses have given up on the ideal of integration and assimilation, perhaps in the wake of the arrival of 11 to 15 million illegal aliens.

Again, I do not editorialize, but I note these vast transformations over the last 20 years that are the paradoxical wages of unchecked illegal immigration from Mexico, a vast expansion of California's entitlements and taxes, the flight of the upper middle class out of state, the deliberate effort not to tap natural resources, the downsizing in manufacturing and agriculture, and the departure of whites, blacks, and Asians from many of these small towns to more racially diverse and upscale areas of California.

Fresno 's California State University campus is embroiled in controversy over the student body president's announcing that he is an illegal alien, with all the requisite protests in favor of the DREAM Act.  I won't comment on the legislation per se, but again only note the anomaly. I taught at CSUF for 21 years.  I think it fair to say that the predominant theme of the Chicano and Latin American Studies program's sizable curriculum was a fuzzy American culpability.  By that I mean that students in those classes heard of the sins of  America  more often than its attractions.  In my home town, Mexican flag decals on car windows are far more common than their American counterparts.

I note this because hundreds of students here illegally are now terrified of being deported to Mexico .  I can understand that, given the chaos in  Mexico  and their own long residency in the  United States .  But here is what still confuses me:  If one were to consider the classes that deal with Mexico at the university, or the visible displays of national chauvinism, then one might conclude that Mexico is a far more attractive and moral place than the United States.

So there is a surreal nature to these protests: something like, "Please do not send me back to the culture I nostalgically praise; please let me stay in the culture that I ignore or deprecate."  I think the DREAM Act protestors might have been far more successful in winning public opinion had they stopped blaming the  U.S.  for suggesting that they might have to leave at some point, and instead explained why, in fact, they want to stay.  What it is about  America  that makes a youth of 21 go on a hunger strike or demonstrate to be allowed to remain in this country rather than return to the place of his birth?

I think I know the answer to this paradox.  Missing entirely in the above description is the attitude of the host, which by any historical standard can only be termed "indifferent."   California  does not care whether one broke the law to arrive here or continues to break it by staying.  It asks nothing of the illegal immigrant — no proficiency in English, no acquaintance with American history and values, no proof of income, no record of education or skills.  It does provide all the public assistance that it can afford (and more that it borrows for), and apparently waives enforcement of most of California  's burdensome regulations and civic statutes that increasingly have plagued productive citizens to the point of driving them out.  How odd that we overregulate those who are citizens and have capital to the point of banishing them from the state, but do not regulate those who are aliens and without capital to the point of encouraging millions more to follow in their footsteps.  How odd — to paraphrase what Critias once said of ancient Sparta — that California is at once both the nation's most unfree and most free state, the most repressed and the wildest.

Hundreds of thousands sense all that and vote accordingly with their feet, both into and out of California   — and the result is a sort of social, cultural, economic, and political time-bomb, whose ticks are getting louder.

The Real COST of Cash for Clunkers!!!! You will be disgusted!!!!!!!

Kind  of brings a tear to your eye

The person who calculated this bit of information went to high school in
 Pittsburgh , Pa.
He is now & has been a professor at The University of
West Virginia in Morgantown, West Virginia for the last forty some years.

I never looked at the clunker program in such depth.
 Clunker Math

Think of it this way: A clunker that travels 12,000 miles a year at 15 mpg
uses 800 gallons of gas a year.
A vehicle that travels 12,000 miles a year at 25 mpg uses 480 gallons a year. So, the average Cash for Clunkers transaction will reduce US gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year.

They claim 700,000 vehicles so that's 224 million gallons saved per year.

That equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil. 5 million barrels is
about 5 hours worth of US consumption.

More importantly, 5 million barrels of oil at $70 per barrel costs about $350 million dollars
So, the government paid $3 billion of our tax dollars to save $350 million.

We spent $8.57 for every dollar we saved
