We should pray for our rulers or leaders

1 2 2011
When this was originally posted I and one of my guest writers was personally attacked and unfriended on face book by many people.
If it offends you to pray for the people that lead you then maybe you should take another look at your self.  We are only human and we all make mistakes and need the love of God.
I am not making excuses ....
If God can come to earth as Christ and save us all from the separation between us and God by taking our sins upon Himself.....then who are we to decide who is worthy of the Saviour.  It is NOT our job to decide.
Pray people.

BY Three guest writers on the topic of prayer.

We should pray for our rulers.
1 Timothy 2:2-3 [1] I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone -- [2] for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. [3] This is good, and pleases God our Savior, [4] who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
It is to be feared that most Christians today are grievously disobedient to God at this point. The present fashion is to rail at our rulers ( yes I know Obummer is not a ruler ). This is in direct disobedience to God's Word:
Jude 1:8-9 [8] In the very same way, these dreamers pollute their own bodies, reject authority and slander celestial beings. [9] But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not dare to bring a slanderous accusation against him, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!"
2 Peter 2:10-11 [10] This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid to slander celestial beings; [11] yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not bring slanderous accusations against such beings in the presence of the Lord.
1 Peter 2:17 Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.
Christians can accomplish far more for "good government" by praying for than by railing at the powers that be.

We should pray for those who use us spitefully and persecute us.
Luke 6:28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
Matthew 5:44 [44] But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
Luke 23:34 Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
Acts 7:60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." When he had said this, he fell asleep.
We have a special obligation to pray toward those who do us wrong.

Some comments from facebook regarding this posting.

I'm not disputing the Hip Chick here, but the US Presidency is not in any way intended to be a seat of a Ruler. That position exists to serve us, not himself. A point he would do well to get through that thick head of his while he's looking down his nose at us, his employers.

I do agree with you .

I am going to have to take exception to her comment of "...praying for rather than railing at...". These people need to be reminded why they are in those positions. No boss walks around praying for his employees, he directs them. Politicians these days are in dire need of being railed upon, shirking to nothing but prayer is not going to fix this mess. We must also act.

It is actually 3 guest writers. HHC is a very new Christian and does not feel qualified to comment. You are welcome to post comments on the blog too. She would even welcome a rebuttal and consider posting it as a story.

Sarah
I don't know HHC, but I'm thinking if this person can type and string a coherant thought together, she is qualified to comment.

Your still welcome to post. Most days I know she can not do any of that because of her disability. But I will share everything you have said with her.

 Sarah
Hip Chick also said something I'm taking a little out of context here about slander. First, it's not slander if it's true. To put the responsibilty for rebuking someone with your own mouth on God is cowardice. To simply address an issue,... without dangerous rage and with intelligence and strength, is a proper thing to do in this case. Railing with stupid mob mentality is reprehensible. BUT, these people need a course correction and not one guided with kid gloves. There is nothing wrong with firm truth. Spare the rod...
 Sarah
In short, I strongly disagree with the sentiment of passive prayer to affect change. This is a time for serious action and accountability.

I agree with you but think that prayer should always be the first response. The Lord wants us to NOT lean to our own understanding and will inspire and give wisdom that we do not have on our own.

Sarah
Sure, pray first, get the right, balanced focus, and strength. Always before action, make sure you're on the right path. But do NOT stop there and expect a magic trick to follow. We have to take the action if we do not want to be run over and destroyed. Prayer alone is not going to fix it.

After reading comments to my friends on Facebook who were kind enough to share my blog I personally have to say I agree with Sarah except on the prayer alone wont fix it.
God is all powerful and can change anything.
We can ask but sometimes the answer is NO.
Will we accept it if it is no?

But Sarah is right and sometimes we must act.  Maybe its part of GOD's plan.
Godly correction must sometimes come from the people who elected the official.
Many of our elected officials have gone so far astray it is going to take a big rod from many of their constituents to correct them.
We must pray for correction but we must also act for that correction and stop complaining to each other and start calling, emailing and faxing our elected officials and telling them just HOW they are to act, and vote in committee, congress, senate, and represent us while in office.

I think Debora of Judges 4 and 5 is a good example of this and have used her to call our country back from the brink.

I am just not loud enough with my one voice.

Please get on it now.
We have a lame duck congress that is going to try to stab us in the back on their way out of office before CHRISTMAS.

Tell them NO on the food safety act.
Tell them no on the dream act. NO MORE AMNESTY FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS.
Tell them to stop the FCC and powers that be and leave our internet alone.
Tell them to stop trying to take away our rights and remove the UN and its AGENDA from OUR COUNTRY.
